2008 subaru impreza review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new impreza and outback sport bigger, more refined. introductionthe subaru impreza lineup is redesigned for 2008, getting bigger and more refined in the process. Base impreza and outback sport models return, as do the high-performance wrx and even higher performance wrx sti. The engine produces 170-horspower, enough power for everyday needs and enough oomph for good passing punch. We drove it in the mountains of colorado and found it up to the task, but it had to work hard up steep grades partly due to the thinner air at high altitude. Drivers who want more power should consider the turbocharged impreza wrx, which is surprisingly civil in behavior.  the impreza powertrain is competitive with anything in the compact class, but some rivals offer six-speed automatics that improve fuel economy. The impreza's fuel economy is on par with other all-wheel-drive compacts, but it suffers compared to front-drive rivals. Even a minor wreck costs more than a tank of gas.  the impreza also has a handling advantage versus several competitors. Advanced suspension geometry, a platform built to host the high-performance wrx models, and a low center of gravity thanks to the boxer engine all add up to crisp handling with little body lean in corners. The gauges are easy to read, and there is plenty of storage space for small items. The front seat has enough head room and leg room for tall drivers, and visibility is good to all corners. The outback sport is only a hatchback. A satellite and navigation package 3500) adds a navigation system and sirius satellite radio plus the premium package equipment but with a single-cd player. The popular equipment group 319) adds auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, and security system shock sensor. Other upgrades include an audio sound package 768) with xm or sirius satellite radio and a subwoofer/amplifier; a short-throw shifter for the manual transmission 374); auxiliary audio input jack 97); roof rack 250); remote engine starting 432); xm or sirius satellite radio 453); and a rear spoiler for the sedan 380). Traction control, electronic stability control, brake assist, and incline start assist (with manual transmission) are standard on all but the 2. 5i, where they are optional. walkaroundthe 2008 subaru impreza has grown up compared to the last model. The width is the same, but the wheelbase is 3. 7 inches longer on an all-new platform. Overall length is also up by 4. 5 inches for the sedan, but is actually down 1. 7 inches for the hatchback. The hatchback's length is taken out behind the rear wheels. Where the last model had a more squared off wagon shape, this one has a raked hatchback shape.  the impreza gets a completely new look for 2008. The front end changes from subaru's somewhat controversial horse-collar shape to the new corporate design that is short and wide. The shape of the grille flows into a pair of cat's eye-style headlights, and its basic shape is repeated below the bumper in an air intake that is flanked by fog lights. The outline of the grille leads into character lines on the hood. The whole effect is more organic and flowing than most cars these days.  the sides of the car are largely uncluttered, except for bold bmw-like shoulder lines that run from the front wheelwells to the taillights. The fenders are slightly flared at the wheels, again lending an organic, flowing shape.  perhaps most important, the impreza now has fully framed door windows, which reduces interior noise and the possibility of leaks. Reviewers have complained about subaru's frameless windows for years.  the impreza sedan ends with a high trunk line, a fairly generic rear end design, and red taillights.  the impreza hatchback, on the other hand, has a raked rear window that leads to an integrated roof spoiler, giving it a sporty demeanor. The dash and center console have lots of plastic, but it doesn't feel cheap. The gauges are black with white markings, red needles and raised silver rings. The gauges are easy to read and the overall look is pleasing.  the center stack has a vehicle information center with the clock, outside temperature indicator, and trip computer information set in a hooded area at the top of the dash. The radio is right below that, followed by a pair of air vents, and finally three easy-to-use climate control knobs.  with the optional navigation system, the radio controls are integrated along the sides of the nav screen. This makes some of the controls small and a bit hard to find, but it shouldn't be a problem after a few weeks. We found the screen hard to read with polarized sunglasses on and hard to read during the day with the headlights on.  small items storage is quite good. The glove box is of a good size. The center console features two cupholders and a deep center console to store cds and life's little trinkets. There is also a small change tray in front of the cupholders, and the front of the console has an open tray to set cell phones and the like.  inside, the impreza has plenty of room for a compact car. On the whole, there is more room than the last model. Even tall drivers should find enough head and leg room. Visibility to all corners is also largely unobstructed.  the back seat is quite impressive. It has good leg room with all but the tallest occupants up front and toe space under the seats is good if those front seats need to be set farther back. Rear head room is excellent. The only minor complaint is the fact that the seat bottoms are fairly flat, meaning long trip comfort may suffer.  cargo room is good, especially in the hatchback. The rear seats are split 60/40 and they fold flat easily via pull-up knobs. In the hatchback, folding the seats down opens up 44. 4 cubic.

Purchased brand new just a few weeks ago right here at tri-city. He wanted the outback and she wanted a forester. After a sleep on it night and long talk during breakfast he won the argument. I'm sure he thought. Two weeks later back they came to trade for a new forester! The moral of this story: happy wife, happy life. Anyway here is the trade, perfect in every way, not a mark on it and still with new car smell. We have included a 100,000 mile cpo warranty that kicks in after the factory 5 year 60,000 mile warranty expires as a a sweetener. The carfax confirms no accident damage.

2005 subaru outback review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New design brings room, refinement and performance. introductionthe subaru outback has been redesigned for 2005. Exteriors are sharper, more stylish, less boxy. More important, the new models are larger outside, and roomier in many dimensions inside. The interior design is more contemporary, more attractive, more comfortable and more luxurious than before.  the cars are lighter and more stable than before. They handle well on winding roads, yet the ride is smooth and soft. The headlamps are higher tech, more upscale in appearance, and the lighting is better managed, with improved coverage. All come with a full complement of safety equipment, including curtain-style airbags and all-wheel drive. It's designed for people who like to drive. The engine surges with power at high rpm making the car fun to drive on winding mountain roads.  the top models are still powered by a 3. 0-liter flat six, but horsepower has been increased to 250. The six-cylinder delivers strong torque, giving it plenty of power on mountain roads without having to work at it. These are the most popular models due to their price point. Yet the center of gravity has been lowered on the 2005 models for improved handling and safety. Wagons are most popular by far and are the best choice for venturing into the outback with a load of outdoor gear, but there is a well-trimmed sedan available. The 2005 models cost more, and not just a little bit. But there's a good argument they're worth it. lineupsubaru builds its outback in two body styles, sedan and station wagon. The five-speed manual transmission is beefed up to handle the additional power, and a five-speed sportshift automatic is available 1200).  the top of the line 3. 0 r comprises three iterations: the sole sedan wearing the outback badge and two wagons, the r l. Bean edition and the vdc limited. The standard powertrain in these three is a 250-horsepower six-cylinder engine coupled to the same five-speed sportshift automatic that's an option in the xt. The driver enjoys an eight-way power seat, tilt steering wheel, auto-off headlights and cruise control. There's the usual complement of power windows, outside mirrors and door locks and remote keyless entry. Air conditioning comforts occupants, who sit on durable-looking fabric upholstery and listen to a six-speaker am/fm/cd stereo. The cargo area has its own light, carpet (including on the back of the rear seats, which are 60/40 split fold-down units), grocery bag hooks and a retractable cargo area cover. The rear bumper is protected by a full-width step pad, and the roof rack comes already fitted with cross bars. A leather-wrapped, momo-brand steering wheel has integrated sportshift control buttons if the optional five-speed automatic is ordered. The xt limited 30,695) brings perforated leather seat trim and restores the power moonroof.  the 3. 0 r sedan 30,995) gets a tire pressure monitoring system, a rear-seat center armrest with trunk pass-through and a single panel power moonroof but trades the turn indicator-equipped outside mirrors for the base units. A momo-brand, mahogany-and-leather-wrapped steering wheel has integrated audio controls. Wagon lovers opting for the 3. 0 r l. Bean edition 32,195) enjoy an auto-dimming inside mirror with electronic compass, l. Bean floor mats and leather-trimmed seats and a removable cargo tray. Turn indicator-equipped outside mirrors return on the 3. 0 r vdc limited 33,395), as does the dual-pane moonroof. A three-frequency, programmable remote opener system joins a stereo upgraded with an mp3 player and rear sub woofer.  standard safety equipment across the line comprises dual-stage frontal airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and full coverage side curtain airbags. Active front-seat head restraints are standard, too, as are anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.  all-wheel drive remains standard across the line, but 2005 sees three systems, one more than in 2004, maintaining the trademark capability but at reduced cost and complexity. The automatic transmission now houses five speeds and comes with sportshift, a manual-type shift function allowing drivers to select individual gears but without using a clutch peda. walkaroundcontrary to conventional expectations, jacking up a car's suspension by two or three inches needn't leave it looking top heavy or tippy. Smartly crafted fender blisters, a deeper front bumper and properly proportioned tire and wheel combinations can make even a tall car look confidently planted, as the 2005 subaru outback illustrates well when contrasted with its fraternal twin, the 2005 subaru legacy.  two honeycomb-like bars split the outback's grille horizontally, clearly distinguishing it from the legacy's and highlighting its extended, octagonal shape. Large round fog lamps both emphasize and soften the aggressive lower fascia. A low-rise air intake on the xt's hood hints at the power lurking beneath. On the xt and the 3. 0 r, the clear-lens turn indicators on the lower edges of the outside mirrors minimize their mass. Wide cross-section tires visually stretch the car's stance.  from the side, the hood's aerodynamic slope gives the car a look of motion even sitting still. In the sedan, the silhouette rises gradually to the a-pillar, then loops up over the geometrically arched side windows and back down behind the upscale, bmw-like c-pillar where it merges with the shoulder-like beltline before wrapping around an equally aerodynamically tapered boot. The wagon's roof line drops steadily rearward from the front doors, combining with the increasing inward tilt of the rear side windows to ease the air's passage beyond the wagon's tail end. Clearly outlined, circular fender blisters make the gap between tire and wheel well look less than it is. Minimalist splashguards behind both wheel wells and cladding along the bottom of the doors pull the body down even more around the tires.  the back end of the sedan traces the rounded shape of the car, with visible shoulders connected by a smoothly arcing trunk lid, concave below the trailing top edge. Inset in the center is the license plate. Large, trapezoidal taillights wrap around the rear fenders. On the wagon, all the lines (roof, rear window outline, beltline, bumper and rocker panel) draw inward, toward the car's center, giving it a taut, neat finish. Large, geometric taillights cover the upper corners of the rear fenders. Small, almost demure backup lights are embedded in the liftgate on each side of the chrome eyelid over the recess for the rear license plate. The secondary, high-mounted stop light is centered in the roof-high spoiler behind a stylish, crystal clear lens. interiorfront seats in the outback 2. 5i base model are comfortable, but definitely short of plush, upholstered in a durable fabric that's reasonably grippy, more so than the leather in the 2. 5i limited. Rear seats are bolstered about the same as the fronts, with a minimal rise in the center in recognition of the driveline hump.  the leather in the limited isn't especially kid glove-like, but it is richly surfaced. The front seats in the xt and above have fuller bolsters and better overall support; the lumbar adjustments at their least aggressive setting accommodate sensitive, surgically altered lower backs, while at the opposite extreme can brace a classic ramrod spine. Bottom cushions are deeper than many but lack the ultimate in thigh support achieved by the standard-setting bmw seats. The perforated leather insets in the xt limited adds some grip that the smooth-finished leather lacks and allows the barest amount of air flow that's refreshing on hot and cold days.  the dash is topped with mildly textured, high quality, seamless vinyl, low-gloss to minimize reflected glare in the windshield. The instruments are rimmed in black in the 2. 5i and xt, in chrome in the 3. 0 r. Gauges are large and round, positioned directly in front of the dr. 2011 subaru impreza review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Value and the beauty of all-wheel drive. introductionthe subaru impreza has been a bestseller for years, and it set sales records in 2010 while others struggled. It packs in a lot, for its size and price. It deserves to be a top choice in foul weather or on rough roads. But it's an easy car to live with even in the best of conditions. It's comfortable and easy to drive. The interior is simple and straightforward, and everything is easy to operate. Cargo capacity after the 60/40 rear seats are dropped is excellent.  the impreza is solid and safe, the ideal size for running around town while holding its own on the freeway with trucks and big suvs. Many people nonetheless prefer the lines of a simple sedan.  the impreza outback sport comes only as a five-door. It's prepared for travel on unpaved roads and can easily carry gear for outdoor work or activities, from sports to dogs. Outback sport includes 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, a raised suspension, foglights, all-weather package, and cargo tray. This lowers the center of gravity and improves the balance, contributing to agile cornering. What's more, the impreza shares the quick wrx steering rack, with 2. 8 turns lock-to-lock, and a tight 34. 8-foot turning circle. There's no lacking in power at any rpm range.  the standard 5-speed manual gearbox works well. Impreza 2. 5i premium 18,495) and 5-door 18,995) upgrade to a new am/fm stereo with single-disc cd player and six speakers, auxiliary input jack, bluetooth hands-free calling, ipod, usb port and satellite radio capability. Options include 17-inch 12-spoke alloy wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and tomtom navigation system.  outback sport 19,995) includes a heavy duty raised suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, front and rear bumper underguards, projector beam foglights, crossbars for the roofrails, heated front seats and sideview mirrors, windshield wiper de-icer, and a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel with audio and cruise controls. Rearview camera is optional.  safety equipment on all impreza models includes the subaru advanced frontal airbag system featuring side-impact air bags and full-length airbag curtains. Active safety features include abs with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, electronic stability control with traction control, and all-wheel drive. They also share a character crease in the side, although the 5-door's edginess vanishes in the sedan, which uses old-fashioned red taillamps, an understated black valance under the grille, and a dual exhaust: two pipes versus the 5-door's one.  the roofline of the 5-door is only 0. 2 inches higher than the sedan, although the coefficient of drag is 0. 34 vs. 0. 32. (the outback sport is 0. 35 thanks to the roof rack.)  the outback sport is a 5-door. Its styling is edgy, with flared fenders, a blocky butt, and short rear overhang with silvery taillamps. A neat nose rises up and back to the aerodynamic spoiler over the liftgate. The roof rack includes high crossbars that add to the outdoorsy look. The ground clearance is raised, but only by a fraction of an inch; the larger wheels (17-inch alloys) with all-season tires add to the rugged look, more aggressive than the smoother but vanilla sedan. The outback sport looks at home on a gravel road high in the mountains. interioreffort and style have gone into the sweeping twin-cockpit design of the impreza cabin. The quality of the interior materials is good. The titanium color for the dashboard trim looks nice.  the steering wheel tilts and telescopes, which is good, but it doesn't seem to tilt high enough. Speaking of visibility, rearview vision is adequate in the 5-door hatchback but not great.  on the dashboard above the center stack there's a horizontal window with digital readout for temperature, time, and fuel mileage, but it's not readable in the sun, and distance to empty is unavailable. The stack itself contains the usual vents with a six-disc cd changer above big easy climate control knobs. There's a nice shift lever behind a cubby and coinholder, and ahead of two cupholders and a 12-volt outlet; between the seatbacks there's a small deep console. The door pockets hold 32-ounce cups. Their outside edges are rugged and handsome, but the wider center part is made of a material that looks sort of like a pinstripe suit, and which attracts and won't let go of things that commonly float around cabins, especially dog hair. Considering that subaru owners are well-known dog lovers, who take them everywhere, we find this issue with the seats shocking. The available leather-trimmed upholstery would likely be a better choice for dogs.  rear-seat accommodations in the 5-door models are average. There's good headroom, while hip and shoulder room in the rear are decent. The rear-seat legroom is a slim 33. 5 inches. The rear seatback angles are reclined for relaxation, and the rear doors open wide, 75 degrees, so ingress and egress is easy, an important quality.  cargo capacity in the 5-door, after the 60/40 rear seats are dropped, is excellent for a car of this size. As a runabout that's not too big and not too small, it's solid, safe, simple, and provides standard all-wheel drive so it's ready for any highway driving condition. It's good for the daily commute or for heading to the mountains in january.  there are two different all-wheel-drive systems on the impreza models. Those with the manual transmission use locking center differential with viscous coupling, which distributes power evenly between the front and rear wheels on dry pavement, and shifts the torque around only when a tire slips. The models with automatic transmission use what subaru calls active torque split that transfers power based on acceleration and deceleration, as well as slippage.
